Module 1 · External analysis

Your integrity exposure as the outside world sees it.

We map the legal environment, the enforcement record, sector cases and competitor cases for the exact countries and sectors you operate in, and score the result per focus area. Every finding comes with its source.

What the external analysis answers

Which integrity risks come with a given country and sector, how hard the authorities actually enforce, and what has already gone wrong for companies like yours. The analysis covers up to seven focus areas, from bribery and money laundering to export control and human rights, and works from public sources only. It needs no internal data and no NDA.

What we analyse

For each country × sector cell in your scope, we look at five layers of evidence. Together they show not only what the law says, but how it is applied and where companies have been caught.

  • Legal and regulatory environment

The statutes and regulations that apply per focus area and country, including thresholds, corporate liability and extraterritorial reach (for example FCPA, UK Bribery Act, Sapin II or the German Criminal Code).

  • Enforcement by the authorities

How actively the relevant authorities investigate and sanction: prosecutors, competition and data-protection authorities, financial regulators and export-control agencies. Examples are the DOJ, SEC, SFO, PNF, Bundeskartellamt, the European Commission and national data-protection authorities.

  • Cases and fines in your sector

Concluded and publicly reported proceedings in your sector, drawn from authority press releases, decisions, court records and reputable press. We extract the patterns: which conduct, which intermediaries, which sanctions.

  • Cases at your direct competitors

Public compliance cases at the companies you name as direct competitors. They show where your business model is most likely to be tested, and what authorities and counterparties will expect from you.

  • Indicators in context

Indices such as the Corruption Perceptions Index, the Basel AML Index and FATF listings, used as context and not as a verdict. We state what each indicator measures, how current it is and where it falls short.

Any country × sector combination

You define the geometry of the analysis. The scope is fixed in the proposal, so you know in advance what will be covered.

  • One sector, several countries

For example oil and gas in five producing countries, when you need to compare markets for a single business line.

  • One country, all relevant sectors

When a country matters to you across business lines, for example as a production hub or for a group-wide market entry.

  • Several sectors in several markets

For diversified groups and annual risk assessments: a full matrix of countries and sectors, scored per focus area.

Scope and effort grow with the number of countries, sectors and focus areas. Pricing on request.

03EXT

Seven focus areas, chosen per scope

Anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, antitrust and competition, fraud, data privacy, export control and sanctions, and human rights. You can include all seven or only those relevant to your decision. See the focus areas.

Cybersecurity, tax and EHS are outside our scope. We stay with integrity risk.

When the external analysis is the right starting point

  • Before entering a new country or sector, as a basis for the go/no-go decision
  • Before signing an acquisition or joint venture, to understand the target's markets
  • As the external input to your annual compliance risk assessment
  • When the board or supervisory board asks for a documented view of country and sector risk

If you want the picture to include your own cases, business partners and spending, add the internal analysis.

What you receive

  • PDF report

Management summary, risk heatmap per focus area × country × sector, a chapter per focus area, case patterns and red flags, recommended measures and a full source register.

  • XLSX annex

Case register, indicator tables and the scoring sheet, filterable and ready to feed into your own risk register.

  • Results session

A walkthrough with Legal and Compliance and, if needed, management, to discuss findings and priorities.

Our analysis is a risk assessment based on documented sources. It is not legal advice.

FAQ3 questions

Questions about the external analysis

Do you need any internal data for the external analysis?

No. The external analysis works from public sources only. We only need your scope: countries, sectors, focus areas and, if you wish, the names of your direct competitors.

How is this different from a country risk index?

An index gives one number per country for one topic. We combine the law, the enforcement record, sector cases and competitor cases for your specific country × sector combination and seven focus areas, and we reference every finding. Indices appear in the report as context, with their limits stated.

How current is the analysis?

Every report states the cut-off date of its research, and every source carries its date. For recurring assessments we can repeat the analysis on the same structure so that changes are visible.
